But I thought it gave an interesting perspective.
According to IPSOS, the most important factor motivating support for Macron was opposition to Le Pen.
This, combined with the lowest turnout since the 1960s, means the space to oppose Macron's free-market reforms from the left will be big.
Macron won comfortably with affluent voters. Much tighter among those with lower incomes.
The pattern is repeated for education: big margins for Macron with the well-educated, much tighter for those without a degree.
So, Macron won quite narrowly among low earners and those without degrees. And there was near-record abstention, disprop from these groups.
By contrast to Macron, the reason that most motivated Le Pen voters to support her was a desire for political change.
The only social category where Le Pen beats Macron is among manual workers.
